Urgent requests
Door stuck open, or worse?
Mark your request as urgent and say why: stuck open overnight, a car trapped inside, or a door hit or bent by wind. If anyone is trapped or hurt, call 911 first.
Common urgent calls
What counts as urgent
A door that will not close at night, a car stuck behind a door that will not open, and a door bent by a vehicle or wind are the requests that should jump the line.
- Stuck open and the house is not secure
- Car or work truck trapped inside
- A broken spring with the door partway open
- A door hit by a car, or bent by a gust while moving
- A cable snapped and the door is hanging

If it will not close
Safe steps for a door stuck open
Most doors that refuse to close have a sensor problem, which the safety system is meant to catch.
- 01
Look for damage first
From the floor, check the spring above the door and the cables at each side. If a spring has a gap, a cable is loose or the door is crooked, leave it open and keep clear. DASMA TDS-167 says not to operate a door with a broken spring.
- 02
Check the sensors
If nothing looks damaged, clear the doorway and wipe both photo eye lenses.
- 03
Check the lock setting
Turn off any lock or vacation mode on the wall control.
- 04
Then the manual
If it still will not close, look up your opener model in the maker’s manual before trying anything else. Never tape, bypass or remove the sensors.
Wind damage
After a wind event
DASMA TDS-152 says a garage door should be closed and secured before a high wind event. Afterward, look for bent sections, rollers out of the track and a door that no longer sits flat on the floor. Our wind and weather page shows live National Weather Service alerts for the Grand Valley.
Leave the tension alone. Never loosen, adjust or remove springs, lift cables, bottom brackets or anything bolted to them. They hold the weight of the door under high tension.

Do you offer 24 hour service?
There is no published 24 hour schedule and no guaranteed response time. The form takes requests at any hour. Start the details with URGENT and say whether the door is stuck open or shut, and we reply with next steps the way you asked. If anyone is trapped or hurt, call 911.
Can I lock a door that will not close?
Only if it is safely down. If the door is stuck open with a broken spring, do not try to force it closed. Secure the door into the house instead, and mark your request urgent.
Will my homeowners insurance cover it?
That is between you and your insurer. Photos of the damage, taken right away, help either way. The written quote can be shared with your insurer.
